Bids that Require Advance Preparation

Transfer responses over 1C

1D-2H puppets 2S by opener. Responder rebids 2NT 11-12 bal, or 3m invitational.

Kaplan Inversion over 1H:
-1S inv+ spades, forcing 1NT hand, or weak unbalanced spades.
-1NT is 5-10 4+ spades non-forcing.

2D opening is 18-19 balanced or strong forcing Ds.

General Bidding Style

2/1, with Gazzilli over 1M.

1st/2nd seat openings are sound (generally 12+ HCPs, slight variation by seat and vulnerability). 3rd seat is light at the 2 level, 1-bids may be light also but tends to still be 10+ HCPs minimum without extra distribution.

2M NV is often 5 cards, in 3rd seat can be a bad suit.

Variable NT: 10-12 NV 1st/2nd, 15-17 V 1st/2nd, 15-17 4th all, 10-14 in 3rd.

Opening Leads AND Leads in the Middle of the Hand

3rd/low against suits, 4th best NT.

Upside Attitude, Standard Count. Smith Echo (NT) and Trump Suit Preference.

Defensive Signals

Upside-down attitude (low encourage, high discourage), Standard Count (Low odd, high even). Attitude tends to come first to partner's lead, if high honors in suit lead present in dummy, signal may be suit preference.

To opponent's lead of a suit, count is frequently given.

First Discard UD attitude.

When leading against suits, we always give count except for when the suit is bid and raised (because count is clear). Against NT, we always lead attitude unless partner bid the suit, in which case we give count.

Secondary signal on suits leads is count.
