Bids that Require Advance Preparation

General Bidding Style

Openings tend to be quite sound in 1st and 2nd. 2N can be somewhat offshape. Unlikely to open 2C with 5-5 or 5-4 distributions.

Opening Leads AND Leads in the Middle of the Hand

3rd and 5th vs all, top of a sequence. Q or J from Qjx(x)

Defensive Signals

Upside down Count (low then high = even, high then low = odd) Upside down attitude (low = keep playing suit, high = find a switch please.) Suit preference (low = lower switch, high = higher switch) only when it is obvious (stiff on the board, honors that look like they will set up.) Always give count over attitude vs suits unless an ace is led. Vs NT attitude is given more often. First discard: low means you want a lead of that suit, high means you don't. This the case for most discards throughout the hand, but if it is assessed that partner doesn't need to know, the discard will be from anything.
