Bids that Require Advance Preparation

1 of a major-2C is a 3+ card limit raise or better

2D Opener is a weak 2 bid in just Hs.
2H Opener shows at least 5-4 in the majors, weak, can be 76, not more than a 1 card disparity.

over 1M-DBL: Rdbl thru 2M-1 but not 1NT are transfers. This includes after an overcall of 1M and a negative DBL.

General Bidding Style

5-Card Majors, Strong NT 14+-17, 2/1 GF.
Aggressive opening bids. We will open most good 11+ and prime 7 loser hands with 2 defensive tricks unless they qualify for 2D and are weakish.

1NT could have 5-card Major or 6-card minor.
May respond to 1 minor with very weak hand if short in the minor.

Opening Leads AND Leads in the Middle of the Hand

Rusinow honor leads: off in partner's suit or a suit he doubled for, off in dummy's suit, off in preemptor's side suits, off versus NT if only have 3 or less
K asks unblock or count versus NT, A asks attitude, lower honor leads are Rusinow
4th best from an honor (or a 5 card or longer suit versus NT)
2nd from all small cards (top of dblton)
Top of all small cards in shortest holding in partner's raised suit (so Xxx if raised to 2)

Defensive Signals

- UDCA - philosophy is give partner what they need. Standard count later. Attitude to partner's lead and to declarer's lead of a short suit from dummy.
- Upside-down Smith versus NT. If partner won the opening lead and shifted, then Smith is about the suit shifted to.
-Suit preference when dummy is singleton in a suit contract and other obvious times.
-When splitting honors, we play the second highest.
-Spot leads normally attitude during hand.
-In ruffing-finesse situation, Q and Ten defined as "high", J and Nine defined as "low", for suit preference.
