We open almost all balanced 11s. 1N is 14-16 in all seats. 1 can be:
- 11-13 balanced without 5 , 5, or 5
- 17-19 balanced without 5 or 5
- Unbal w/ primary clubs 1 can be:
- 5 332 11-13
- 5+ unbal
- 4441 (non- singleton)
- 4-5 minors that prefers to open 1 and rebid 2 |
Opening Leads AND Leads in the Middle of the Hand

4th from interest. Top from xxx. Top or 2nd from xxxx. A from AK. King is power. Rusinow from KQx and 4+cards, pivot at the 9 (9 can be 109xx or 98xx). Suit OL: 3rd from even, lowest from odd. Rusinow from 3+cards. Both: Rusinow off in Partner's suit, Dummy's suit, and after T1. After T1, 4th best from positive att. |
Defensive Signals
| UDCA and u/d discards.
Primary signal to Partner's lead is generally att. Exceptions: -- 3-way SP (middle encourages) in known 6+card suits (and Preemptor signaling in his suit) -- SP when dummy is short or we infer declarer is short -- Frequent count at 5+ level Primary signal to Declarer's leads are generally count, except Reverse Smith Echo at T2 at NT (unless irrelevant or count clearly needed). Remainder count is right-side up. Suit-pref in trumps, when needed. |
