Bids that Require Advance Preparation

After 1D opening followed by TO double we play transfer responses: redouble = 1H, 2C = 4/4 at least in the minors and simple raise values, 3C = 5/4 in the minors and competitive raise values, 2S = at least 5 spades and 4+ hearts non-invitational strength.

Suggested defense to 2S response: Double shows takeout for minors or takeout of spades, whichever you decide.

After 1D opening followed by Pass, 2S, and 3C response are the same as above.

Transfer responses to one of a major followed by TO double.

We also play transfer responses to overcalls. They are only on when there are steps between the opening suit and the overcalled suit, and the opener’s partner passes or makes a negative double.

3N opener shows a 7 card minor semi-solid or solid with outside stoppers, good hand. 2D opener is precision 3 suiter short in diamonds, 10-15 HCP, can be 4/3 in the majors. Suggested defense to 2D opener D = 14-16, 2NT = 17-18, 3D natural.
