After 1 opening followed by TO double we play transfer responses: redouble = 1, 2 = 4/4 at least in the minors and simple raise values, 3 = 5/4 in the minors and competitive raise values, 2 = at least 5 spades and 4+ hearts non-invitational strength.
Suggested defense to 2 response: Double shows takeout for minors or takeout of spades, whichever you decide. After 1 opening followed by Pass, 2, and 3 response are the same as above. Transfer responses to one of a major followed by TO double. We also play transfer responses to overcalls. They are only on when there are steps between the opening suit and the overcalled suit, and the opener’s partner passes or makes a negative double. 3N opener shows a 7 card minor semi-solid or solid with outside stoppers, good hand. 2 opener is precision 3 suiter short in diamonds, 10-15 HCP, can be 4/3 in the majors. Suggested defense to 2 opener D = 14-16, 2NT = 17-18, 3 natural. |
Precision, 5 card majors, 1NT response semi-forcing, 2/1 forcing to game except competition, Jumps from 1 of a major to 4 of a major wide range, light opening bids, light responses, 1 level overcalls light, 2 level overcalls normal. |
Opening leads: 3rd/5th vs Suit, 4th vs NT, High from weak 4 & 5 card holdings vs NT, High from 3 small vs suit if suit has been raised, lower of touching honors vs NT, King is our unblock card (AKJ10x, KQ109x), Ace asks for attitude, 10 or 9 = 0 or 2 higher later leads.
Leads in the middle of the hand: 10 or 9 = 0 or 2 higher; 3rd and 5th at NT. |
Standard carding. Signaling priority is Attitude, Count, Suit Preference. Smith Echo vs NT. |
