Bids that Require Advance Preparation

After 1M - 2C, clubs can be short. 2/1 GF
We play mixed raises:
1X (1Y) 3 of a suit with a jump below pard's suit'X' is mixed raise. No room no mixed raise.
or jump bid of LHO's suit on pard's overcall is mixed raise

General Bidding Style

5-Card Majors, Strong NT 14+-17, 2/1 GF.

1NT could have 5-card Major (common) but with 5 spades and 4 of another suit we most often open 1S and similarly with 5Hs and 4 of a minor, 1H.

1 level overcalls 7+ HCP. 2-level overcalls specially when vulnerable are very sound (a good suit or a good hand or both)

Usually open 1D with 4-4 in minors

We open hands with the Rule of 20 = high card points + length of 2 longest suits

In 3rd seat we could be a little lighter than in first or second. Could be a good four-card major. No too radical tendencies.

when vul we play sound weak 2 openers.

Opening Leads AND Leads in the Middle of the Hand

3rd from even, low from odd against suit, and 4th best against NT.

Lead of K against NT asks pardner to unblock or give count.

Leads of A or Q against NT asks pard for attitude.

In the middle of the hand we play 10 denies, 9 implies zero or two higher cards, and J denies a higher honor.

Usually low from xxx in partner’s suit, specially when unsupported, giving count.

Defensive Signals

Std. Count and attitude

We give frequent suit preference including in the trump suit.

Lead of a low card in a new suit generally implies, return my suit partner

When opps lead a suit we may or may not give count when we follow

When pard leads A from AK against suit contract, and dummy has a singleton in that suit, we give suit preference.
