Bids that Require Advance Preparation

Hands with 6-3 or 5-4 in minors (and 2-2 in majors) are treated as balanced. Also hands with a 5 card major that is 5-3-3-2 is treated as balanced. Therefore an opening of 1 diamond (or 1NT) could have a 5 card major or 6 card club suit.

1 Club - 15+ any shape. Only bid for hands 15+ HCP

1 Diamond - 3 possible hands
10-14 5+ diamonds unbalanced
10-14 5 clubs with a 4 card 2nd suit (could
have singleton diamond)
13-14 balanced (could have 5 card major or 6
card club suit.
**** 1H response to 1D is EITHER natural OR any
game force. (Could have a heart void) Most
other responses to 1D are NON FORCING.

1 Major is 8 to 14 HCP and could be a 4 card
suit with no longer suit.

1 NT Weak 10-12 except 3rd seat vul or any 4th

2C 10-14 6+ clubs

2D 10-14 any 3 suiter

2 major 10-14 6 card major. Usually no 2nd suit
4 cards or longer and usually only 6 card
suit.

2NT 10-14 and 5-5 or longer in minors
