Bids that Require Advance Preparation

None

General Bidding Style

Precision in the Meckwell Lite style. We open almost all 11s, some 10s and the occasional 9. 3rd seat 1-2 points lighter. NT range is 14-16 except 15-17 for (a) 4th seat and (b) 3rd seat vul. Our preempts are aggressive; frequent five-card weak two bids; all preempts may be two-suiters with less than normal length in the suit bid.

Opening Leads AND Leads in the Middle of the Hand

Opening: 3rd and low vs suit; 4th vs NT. From 3+ low cards: 3rd and low vs suit, top or 2nd vs NT.
Mid Hand: 4th from an honor, high from small cards.
Honor Leads vs Suit: (thru 4S) High from touching honors (A from AK). (5 level and above) A asks attitude about K; K asks count.
Honor Leads vs NT: A asks unblock any face card otherwise count; K asks attitude (assume leader has AKxx).
Honor Leads vs Gambling 3NT and 3X-P-3NT: King promises the Queen, Ace neither promises nor denies the King.

Defensive Signals

Normal: attitude to partner's lead, count to opponents' lead. If no count signal on 1st round, spot card to 2nd round is present count. Plays among trump suit spot cards tend to be suit preference.
(vs Suit) Switch to suit preference when dummy has singleton
(vs Suit or NT) Switch to suit preference when continuation otherwise can't be right.
We give false count / random count when we judge that true count will be more helpful to declarer than to partner.
