Bids that Require Advance Preparation

1m-P-2H = rev flan, less than inv

1H-P-2S = 6+ spades, less than inv
1M-P-3C = 3 or 4-card limit

Transfer resp. and transfer advances after 1M (X) starting with 1NT
1M-(X)-XX = 10+

When we open or overcall 1M, 2N is 4-card LIM+

General Bidding Style

5-card majors, 2/1 GF

Open most 11 counts white, esp. with major

1N is 14-16 white, 1st-3rd; 15-17 others

Opening Leads AND Leads in the Middle of the Hand

Vs. NT: 4th from an honor, 2nd from 4 small (not top of a sequence), high from 3 small;
Rusinow from 4+ (EXCEPT in dummy’s suit, partner’s suit, or as preempter leading side suit
K power)
Vs. Suit: 3rd/low. A from AK (EXCEPT side singleton, AK tight, 5-level (count), partner’s suit, preempt auctions at 3 or 4 level)

In a bid and supported suit, lead priorities are count then attitude

Leads in middle of the hand: Attitude; if suit has been played and attitude known, then SPC. K asks for count

Defensive Signals

UDCA and standard present count
T1 is attitude, then count, then SP
If dummy’s singleton is led, SP can be given by second / fourth hand (otherwise, count)
Vs. NT:
Reverse smith at T2. Can be for length. Rare exceptions: (1) Replace with count in obvious count situation, (2) Replace with SP if 2 or more stoppers in dummy
When leading through declarer, attitude for suit continuation (not about honor)
When returning partner’s suit, original 4th best (usually T2)
Vs. Suits:
Trump suit preference
Discards are attitude, SPC, then SP
May give some 3rd/5th signals
When leading honor through declarer, Q/10 = high SP and J = low SP
