The 2005 USBC was held in Houston, TX from May 13 through May 22, 2005. The Russ Ekeblad team had to survive an 8 board tie-break in the Semi-finals to make it to the Finals, in which they defeated the Roy Welland team by 51 IMPs to become the first team to win the event after starting in the Round Robin. Ekeblad earned the right to be USA2 for the Bermuda Bowl in Estoril, Portugal, where they won the bronze medal.
