About the Players
Doug is a life-long resident of Columbus, Ohio, except for the five years he lived in Philadelphia, where he earned both B.S. and M.A. degrees from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is CEO and owner of First City Bank there. He loves spending time with his family - wife Joyce; daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Jason, attorneys in Seattle; son Alex, a high school counselor in Nashville; and grandsons Max and Teddy, also in Seattle. Among his many interests are golf (he recently shot an amazing 2-under-70 at Columbus Country Club, site of 1964 PGA Tournament!), classical music and jazz (he has a very sophisticated audio record system), Ohio State University sports, reading, movies, travel, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Doug learned bridge at his parents' kitchen table, and has always loved to play. His bridge partner of 25 years was the late Walter "WOJO" Johnson, who is dearly missed. Doug has been very fortunate to be mentored by two great teachers, Eric Rodwell and Marty Bergen. Jeff Aker and Doug have been working hard to develop a new and strong partnership. They play a very complicated precision system which requires great dedication and effort to play well. Fortunately, they both enjoy working at bridge and their results continue to steadily improve.
Doug has won two Life Master Pairs and two Grand National Teams events. In 2015, his team finished 2nd in the Senior USBC, 4th in Chennai, India at the D'Orsay Senior Teams, and tied for 5th-8th place in the Spingold. He also won the Pan American Pairs Gold Medal with Eric Rodwell in 1990.
Drew Casen, recently relocated to Springfield, Louisiana, is a bridge professional, former accountant, 4 handicap golfer, expert hold'em (poker) player, and dog lover.
His current partners include John Onstott, and Jim Krekorian.
Jim Krekorian, formerly of New York City, now a Pensacolian, graduated from Duke engineering school in 1974 and served as a U.S. Air Force pilot from 1974 to 1981, achieving the rank of Captain, C-130 aircraft commander. Jim traded options on the American Stock Exchange from 1986 to 2003, was a floor official for 5 years, and formed Blue Hercules LLC in 1999. At Duke he was a 3-year letterman in track and is still an avid runner and racer.
Jim is now a full-time bridge professional and consultant and part-time artist, with oils being his favorite medium for his paintings. He won the Life Masters Men's Pairs in 1986 and Life Master Pairs in 2014., the Grand National Open Pairs in 1992 and 2009, the Blue Ribbon Pairs in 1996, the Open BAM Teams in in 1997, and in his renewed partnership with Drew Casen the Cavendish double (pairs in 1987, teams in 2007) and Senior KOs in 2010.
