About the Players

Evan Berman

Hi, my name is Evan Berman. I am 15 years old. I was born and have lived ever since in Sarasota, FL.

I have played bridge since I was in fifth grade. I am now a junior in high school. Since my parents do not play bridge, I am thankful for all the people who have helped teach me and convince me to start playing bridge- especially unit 102 volunteers.

I have been to every single Summer NABC since New Orleans in 2010 and also attended the JUSBC in 2013.

Most of my free time is filled by playing baseball, and I play on the varsity team at my school.

Tyler Hart

Tyler is 18 years old. Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, Tyler moved to New Haven in August 2015 to start his first semester at Yale University. He is undecided on a major, but it may be Physics, Math, African Studies, or English. He is entertaining the idea of walking on to the Varsity Cross-Country/Track Team, but for now, he spends his time playing bridge, pool, ping-pong, and practicing Wushu (Chinese martial arts).

Tyler has played in two Youth NABCs (Atlanta 2013 and Las Vegas 2014) where he partnered with Evan Berman and Jonathan Baumel.

Tyler wants to say THANK YOU to all who have helped him with the game, especially David Weinberg, Kathy Lane and the rest of Reno Youth Bridge.

Jack Gillispie

Jack Gillispie,17, says:

I was born in Jamestown, NY. From there, my parents, sister, brother and I moved to Scotland, PA, Elizabethtown, PA, and Ringgold, GA over the span of 16 years. I don’t recommend making such long distance trips in a Prius.

About six years ago I read a book by Louis Sachar, The Card Turner. As a game aficionado anyhow, I decided to take up bridge (after all, it had to be just another card game). My dad helped me find books to read, and we played regularly at the Harrisburg Bridge Club. He’s been addicted ever since, and I am still astonished at how profound the game actually is.

My certifications as a club director and teacher have been a great help to my game. I play at least once a week at the club, in addition to my time spent on BBO (jgillispie). I have also taken up a position writing for my local bridge club newsletter, in hopes to make others more aware about proper ethics of the game.

When I’m not playing, reading, or thinking about bridge, it might be because I’m at the gym or beating on the punching bag at home. Otherwise, I’m making balloon sculptures, doing homework, playing games or trying to convince my friends that a New Year’s party is a good idea. In short, I’m a pretty laid back guy who enjoys a good joke and a minimal workload.
